Mine to my waist, his almost halfway down his back. Very thick.

The first time I vacuumed the carpet the vacuum was compacted with the lint and then wasn’t able to get any more things out of the carpet.
Is there something that I need to do with a new carpet? is there a tool used to clean up the carpet lint? Should I use a different setting to vacuum the carpet? Is there a vacuum rating I need to get the carpet clean?
