Weekend Project: Make A Vacuum Former

Here’s a cheap and easy way to make 3D plastic forms like Stormtrooper costumes and tons of other things. Cost: around $20.

try waiting about 30 seconds longer till the hips slumps down about 3 or 4 cm below the top of the moulding lid surface , flip apply the vac then use the heat gun carefully till u see the divots near the edge of the job to form. let cool with the vac still on , that gives great results. dont forget to put ur job in the fridge for 20 mins first though ,it really help get hi definition.brad

so after you cut out your form, how do you get the left over piece of the polystyrene off the frame?

thanks for clearing that up. i thought that’s what you meant, just didn’t want anyone else to get the wrong idea. imo, if it’s a small piece, you could consider using a resin instead. depends on the price, which i’d have to compare. i wouldn’t want to use fibreglass except on larger pieces that need to be relatively light while offering good structural integrity. lots and lots of products out there to play with. :)
